How many of you remember Hi5? No one. Ooh shucks!!

Anyway, back when I was in JS1, I remember heading into the Computer lab for our Computer Class and I noticed a rather unusual bubble. About five other students or so were gathered around one computer.

I walked over to them and asked one, “What’s got you all excited?” The girl smiled at me and replied, “This is the latest craze in town!!” Yeah, you can imagine how confused I was when she said that.

But my curiousity piqued of course so I asked, “What is this craze?” She just groans and goes, “Didn’t anyone tell you about Hi5? Like Hi5 is the latest social media craze taking the world by storm!! Everyone that is everyone has an account!!”

That won me over on the spot. I asked her to show me how to create an account and other stuff.

She kindly showed me and I followed everyone in my class. The next couple weeks, everyone would be chatting about Hi5 and their follower counts and other shenanigans.

Along the way, I heard about another social media site called Bebo which I also joined. I joined MySpace about a year later or so.

The irony about this is that I would abandon those platforms altogether once Facebook began to rise up in popularity.

One of my older sisters was the one that introduced me to Facebook since that was what everyone else began to use.

I was obsessed with it for a while but soon grew bored with it.

The social media platforms I use a lot more these days are Tumblr, Twitter, and LinkedIn. I mostly use them for job hunting and writing inspiration I used to use Instagram a lot but nowadays, not so much.

Just looking back at my secondary school days makes me laugh at time because the early social media era was that one rare segment of my teenage years that I guess I can talk happily about.

What was your earliest social media memories? Which social media platform did you use back in the day?
