Business Lessons from Kang Daniel Part 1
As weird as this might sound, one can learn a lot of business lessons from the world of Kpop. Behind the glitzy colourful world these Kpop artistes live in, lies a more brutal corporate setting.
That brings me to today’s personality: Kang Daniel.
Who is he?
He is a Kpop artiste, dancer and now CEO of his own label Konnect Entertainment.
Daniel rose to fame after coming 1st in the popular Korean music survival show, Produce 101. He would then debut in the group Wanna One and dominate the music charts for the 2 years they would be active until their disbandment in 2019.
During his trainee years, he was not popular initially but thanks to hard work, dedication and consistency; he gained a lot of popularity and respect from fans, his fellow trainees and the industry.
His debut was highly anticipated due to his immense popularity. However, things did not go according to plan thanks to his then label whom he discovered that they handed over his musical promotions to a third party company and that was not part of their agreement. They did not even hype up his upcoming debut.
Basically, they wanted to make more money off the guy’s name.
What did he do? He sued them on the spot.
What is the key lesson here?
⭐️Never ever let people take advantage of you and your talent and dreams.
⭐️ Never settle for less than what you are worth.
⭐️ Never give up. Keep on fighting.
⭐️ Always work hard and be consistent
He fought for his dreams even though he stood the risk of getting blacklisted as those that get involved in high profile lawsuits or scandals or controversies often get blacklisted by the industry.
At the end of the day, the Supreme Court ruled in his favour and suspended that contract giving him the opportunity to move onto the next phase of his life which I shall cover in another post.
